Huddle Virtual Phone: Your Team's Business Line Explained
Every Huddle member gets a virtual phone with a US number. Here's how in-team calling works, what's free, and how to add outbound US calling.
The Huddle virtual phone gives every team member a dedicated US number that works inside the Huddle app — no SIM, no second device, no access codes. It is one of the features that most clearly sets Huddle apart from plain video conferencing tools.
What You Get
- A dedicated number per member. Each person's number can be shared with clients instead of a personal cell number, so business calls stay on a business line.
- In-team calling. Call any teammate's Huddle number directly for quick discussions — like a business phone system inside the app.
- Unlimited inbound calls. Anyone can call your Huddle number, and you can answer in the app.
- Voicemail. Missed callers can leave a message, accessible by dialing your virtual number (and in-app on paid plans).
- Escalate to a meeting. Turn a phone call into a full video conference when a quick chat becomes a real conversation.
What's Free vs Paid
The virtual phone and in-team calling are included with Huddle.Team at $7/host/month. Outbound calling to numbers outside your team requires a calling plan — around $2 or $8 per host per month depending on the package, enabling virtually unlimited calling to US numbers. Without a plan, outbound is not available. The number stays active as long as you use the app; it refreshes on a rolling timer, and it becomes permanent when you upgrade to a paid calling plan.
Setting It Up
- Install the Huddle mobile or desktop app.
- Allow notifications and contacts permissions.
- Log in and select the phone icon in the navigation bar.
- Claim your number and share it with clients or teammates.
- Keep your device ringing enabled so calls reach you; disabling ringing sends callers to voicemail.
Why Teams Like It
It removes the awkwardness of giving out personal numbers and gives small teams a professional-looking business line with zero hardware. Combined with team chat and conferencing, it makes Huddle a genuine all-in-one. For pricing specifics, see our pricing guide.
Privacy and Professionalism
The virtual phone is as much about privacy as it is about convenience. Giving clients a Huddle number instead of a personal cell keeps your personal life separate and looks more professional for a small business. Because inbound calls are unlimited and voicemail is included, the number works as a real business line even if you only use the app part-time. You control when calls ring, and everything routes through the app rather than your carrier.
Virtual Phone vs a Traditional System
A traditional business phone system requires hardware, wiring, and an admin to manage extensions. Huddle's virtual phone replaces all of that with a number per person and in-app management. For a small team, the setup time is minutes rather than days, and the cost is bundled into the Huddle subscription rather than a separate phone bill. That comparison is exactly why the virtual phone is the feature most often cited as the reason teams switch.
